It had been assumed that obesity increases the risk of pancreatic cancer in men than in women. However, researchers have a new study, which was attended by 138 thousand women after menopause performed. The study lasted for 7 years. The results showed that obesity is a risk factor for women, too. The researchers considered risk factors such as smoking and lifestyle, and found that the risk of pancreatic cancer was 70% higher in women with excess weight around the waist and hips. Risk was particularly high for women in menopause. Diagnosed each year in the UK with pancreatic cancer put more than 7,400 people and seven thousand die from the disease. This type of illness is often very difficult to detect at an early stage, therefore a very low survival after diagnosis.
