63% of Russians do not want to become blood donors

More than half of respondents (63%) would not want to be blood donors. These data were obtained from a survey conducted by the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM) carried out to 12 to 13 July 2008. The survey 1600 people from 153 villages in 46 regions of Russia. Among these 36% ever donated blood, the other 64% has never functioned as a donor. It was found that 63% of respondents do not want to be a donor, and 21% would be blood on it under certain conditions. The remaining 10% were undecided. Among those willing donors the young Russians dominated become, and people with higher education. With age, the number of potential donors was less: particularly among 18-24-year-old citizen of potential donors - and 38% of those over 60 - only 8%. His dislike of a donor, the respondents most often due to poor health (33%) and age (23%). 9% of respondents reported that they fear contracting dangerous diseases, or simply do not have the desire. Another 7% said they were afraid of the sight of blood, needles or pain. The rest have not explained the failure to understand the importance of the process, the potential harm to the health or lack of payment procedures for blood donation. Among those who would like to donate blood from a donor, was from people who want to help those who need blood (61%) dominated. For 8-9% of the respondents said that they are willing to donate blood for their relatives, or a donation a noble and good body. The same number of respondents said they are good for the health as blood donation. An additional 2% of donated blood at the request or because members of the health professions.
