Soy products reduce memory in older adults

British scientists have found that frequent consumption of soy products such as tofu, age can affect the memory. Based on these data it is recommended to reduce the consumption of these products after 60 years. Researchers from the Universities of Loughborough and Oxford compared the eating habits of 719 residents of the island of Java, aged 52 to 98 years, with the results of their tests for memory. It was found that those who ate tofu more than once per day, the memory with an average of 20% is less than other study participants. This work is performed under the direction of Professor Hogervorst EFJ (Eef Hogervorst), an opportunity to change recommendations for the use tofu and other soy products to be popular among vegetarians and supporters of a healthy diet. It was believed that soy is very useful because of the high content of dietary isoflavones. But unlike isoflavones, soy is rich in phytoestrogens hormones that may be neuroprotective for the young and middle-aged, but it reduces the memory and increase the risk of dementia in the elderly. The mechanism of this effect has not been established.
