Estrogen helps combat in schizophrenia

The hormone estrogen protects women with schizophrenia and other serious mental illness and exacerbation of seizures, according to Australian researchers. Scientists have found that women with higher levels of the hormone estrogen, less likely to suffer from hallucinations. According to experts, the hormone can increase blood flow to the brain, thus improving their performance. The study was published in the journal Archives of General Psychiatry. The men in the blood also contains estrogen, but women have this hormone in much higher concentrations, regulating the menstrual cycle. The relationship between estrogen and mental illness was not seen more than a hundred years, but now scientists are considering hormone as a possible form of treatment. Scientists from the University of Melbourne studied 100 women suffering from schizophrenia. Half of the participants took the usual treatment for schizophrenia and received the hormone estrogen, the other half received only treatment without added hormones. Within a month, experts recorded daily on the status of the participants. As a result, researchers found that patients who received conventional treatment in addition to estrogen, much less an attack coming schizophrenia and worsening mental state. According to experts, estrogen may be associated with the treatment of schizophrenia and other disorders with mental disorders.
