The age-related macular degeneration affects the risk of heart attack

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) - the leading cause of blindness have been linked to an increased risk of heart attacks associated. The researchers found that the risk of death from cardiovascular disease at least doubled in people with the disease from AMD. Scientists suggest that the cause may be a drug for the treatment of the disease, as they affect the operation of the ships. VMD - a disease with genetic predisposition and the primary localization of the pathological process at the level of the pigment epithelium and capillary macula (central) part of the retina. According to the results of epidemiological studies, the age-related macular degeneration is the leading cause of blindness and visual impairment in older adults. Sydney group of researchers conducted a study in which 3,600 people participated, who were about the age of 49 years at baseline. Of these 2,335 people were re-interviewed after 5 years, and in 1952 after 10 years. Scientists have found that people who have AMD in the early beginning of the study, had twice the risk of dying from a heart attack in the next 10 years. Those who have had late-stage disease, the risk of heart attack by 5-fold. Experts believe that to find out more precise relationship between the need for further research, as scientists have long ceased to find the exact cause of the GMR and the relationship of cardiovascular disease.
